Description:
1930s Matador Garant 998, black chased celluloid. Matador made a huge range of pens from school pen quality to the very best. This is a pen to rival those of Montblanc, Pelikan and Soennecken and is only the second 998 Garant I've ever seen. Lambrou, for example, in FPOTW shows a 994 and a 996, but not a 998. It does have its issues. A name in cyrillic script is imprinted twice on the barrel (gotta be sure of these things), and the nib and feed are from a Watermans OS Hundred Year. But what a pen! The nib is a fine with plenty of flex and looks remarkably like the original Mortons (New York) nib that would have been on it. If this were a Montblanc 139, (and it's about the same size) if would cost many times the price, and it is much less common. $350.00
