This is the very latest Limited Edition from Pelikan, brand new this year. The Blue Planet is another M1000-sized, astronomically-themed Pelikan Limited Edition, in this case a grand tribute to our planet, third out from the sun, the blue planet. Skillful craftsmanship evokes the Earth as viewed from space. The edition is limited to 540 pens worldwide, one for every million years since life began on this blue planet.
Says Pelikan:
This new star that has appeared in the universe of writing instruments emanates an almost ethereal elegance and a quality of the utmost preciousness. The cobalt blue front section is adorned with a gold-plated sterling silver ring. Into the sleeve, which is also of sterling silver, a detailed depiction of the earth with its oceans of shining blue is engraved with the highest artistry, standing out against the anthracite black background of outer space. The filigree pattern of clouds above the earth is embedded into the protective layer of clear varnish, and is applied with the finest airbrush technique. The overall impression is harmoniously complemented by guilloched lines of longitude and latitude on the filling knob and the tip of the cap. And of course the 18-carat gold nib, written in by hand and adorned with elegantly curving rhodium embellishments, shines too.
Beautifully presented, the Pelikan Blue Planet is a handsome pen with a true Pelikan work-horse inside. The pen is available with OB, B or M nib; it fits the full range of M1000 nibs, providing the near flexibility that the M1000 is famed for, and meaning that the nib can be readily swapped and customized. This Blue Planet is unused, new in the box. |
